The Fox 101.7 presents:
The lead single, "Ten Ton Brick," furthers HURT's signature post-grunge alt-metal sound with a melodic melding of aggression and frustration with soaring harmonies, quieter interludes and intelligent, affecting lyrics. The LA-based quartet have earned raves for their "gothic, confessional, soul-searching" songs and the ebb and flow of "heavy guitars, acoustic strums and symphonic samples, whispered vocals, and guttural screams." And those musical and lyrical qualities are even more intense on "Vol. II." KFOG presents: THIS CHARMING BAND: A TRIBUTE TO THE SMITHS/MORRISSEY (8/29) - Over the past few years, This Charming Band has played to hundreds of dedicated Smiths and Morrissey fans in San Francisco, Moz Angeles, Anaheim, Las Vegas, Arizona, San Diego, Fresno, Marin, Oakland, Sacramento, and San Jose -- including venues such as House of Blues (Anaheim & Hollywood), Bimbo's, Slim's, Cafe du Nord, Crash Mansion, and the Troubadour. And each show turning out to be a true celebration of unity in the appreciation and love of the music and community established long ago by The Smiths, and still currently by the man himself, Morrissey!
We are all fans of The Smiths and Morrissey solo and hope to give fans the chance to see and maybe feel what The Smiths might have been like live. TCB will do our best to keep the flame alive... - Orlandissey SOLID STATE LOGIC (8/30) - Formed in SF in 2004, Solid State Logic has quickly developed an original, heavy alternative rock sound that has the hook to set new standards in the post nu-metal scene. As music trends come and go in the alternative rock genre, SSL quickly formulated a sound that both captures the raw sounds of bands like Alice in Chains along with the modern-edged sound of today. BILL EVANS SOULGRASS W/ SPECIAL GUEST SAM BUSH (9/4) - Throughout his 20 + year career as a solo artist, saxophonist Bill Evans has explored a variety of musical settings that go well beyond the confines of traditional jazz, including hip-hop, fusion, reggae, Brazilian and slamming funk. Evans steps into more adventurous territory with Soulgrass, blending jazz, funk and bluegrass into a seamless and wholly unique hybrid of quintessentially American styles.
Bill Evans first joined Miles Davis' group at the age of 22 in 1980. He went on to record 6 records with Davis, as well as tour the world with him many times over a 4 year period. The stint with Davis was followed by 3 years with John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra that went on to tour and record 3 CDs. Since his tenure with Davis and McLaughlin, Bill has recorded/ toured with Herbie Hancock, Lee Ritenour, Dave Grusin, Mick Jagger, to name but a few. Bill has been touring almost exclusively with his own band since 1990, playing well over 100 concerts per year worldwide.
The one and only Sam Bush will be sitting in with some great friends in the next month or two. Between touring with his own Sam Bush Band, he will also be making some special guest appearances. First in Texas for a few dates with Lyle Lovett, then with Charlie Haden at Lincoln Center in NYC and then a few dates with Bill Evans and Soulgrass. This is a great opportunity to see Sam in some different settings.
Sam Bush's ability to be continually touched and amazed by new music may be the quality that makes him such a successful and virtuosic performer and band leader. He helped create newgrass music almost 35 years ago, and today he's still as vital a presence on the acoustic music scene as ever: still making new sounds, still rockin' out on great songs, and still pushing the bar higher for the legions of his proteges, fans and friends. DREAD ZEPPELIN - 20TH ANNIVERSARY! (9/5) - Dread Zeppelin = "Led Zeppelin music inna reggae style with an Elvis impersonator." The band has continued to play to die-hard fans and confused faces in crowds around the world for 20 years now. While the make-up of the band has gone through a few member changes, the main forces of the band have remained to reveal new and old sounds, and look for a new generation of Led Zeppelin fans and anti-Led Zeppelin fans. Dread may always be considered to most, purely a novelty act. However, some may argue that unlike a number of those acts, the band's longevity is due to their ability to actually play.
On their latest release, "Bar Coda," they manage to step back in time with their camp approach they are known for. Tortelvis, (described as a cross between Vegas-era Elvis, Dracula and Liberace), has made a career of imitating the vocal style and mannerisms of the late Elvis Presley. However, "the times they are a kinda changin'." While Tortelvis still carries some of the Elvis inflections into his own style, the music seems to be more timeless when not reverting to the use of fat, food or drug references, although their use of weaving many songs and riffs together make for laughs of their own. BLOWOFF (BOB MOULD & RICH MOREL) (9/6) - Bob Mould and Richard Morel's BLOWOFF is a musical smackdown of a party that has become a destination event for a wide cross-section of appreciative fans. Alternative music-loving boys (girls welcome!), burly beer-drankin' men, leather daddies, and loads of chunky hunks like those featured in BLOWOFF's smokin' signature artwork have found the party they've been looking for in BLOWOFF.
Keenly maintaining the musical emphasis of the BLOWOFF parties, Mould and Morel DJ in tandem, laying down a meaty signature mix of indie rock, electro and house (from Chromeo to Matthew Dear to Annie to Amanda Lepore), accented by a series of artfully eye-popping vignettes projected throughout the club.
Originally a live and DJ musical collaboration between Washington, DC-based singer-songwriters Bob Mould — formerly of alt rock bands Hüsker Dü and Sugar — and electronic producer/artist Richard Morel, BLOWOFF began over five years ago at DC's Velvet Lounge. Though the venues have changed, the DC party has become a local staple built around the music, great visuals, signature flyer artwork and an enthusiastically devoted fanbase, which now numbers well over 1000 at each event. Smart Bar in Chicago, Minneapolis Eagle (a Pride event), Homo A Go Go (Olympia, WA), 2006 Folsom Street Fair (where BLOWOFF was a headliner) have all hosted BLOWOFF.
2007 saw the highly successful (all parties sold out) launch of BLOWOFF New York and September 6 will see the launch of BLOWOFF San Francisco. Get here early - you won't want to miss it! BUILT TO SPILL PERFORMING "PERFECT FROM NOW ON" IN ITS ENTIRETY (9/8, 9/9) - Yes, you read that right... Built to Spill will be performing "Perfect From Now On" in its entirety! ***PLEASE NOTE THERE IS A 4 TICKET LIMIT PER SHOW PER PERSON.*** FINNTROLL (9/10) - Finland's purveyors of the most original and innovative form of extreme music are preparing to bring their unique brand of metal to North America. Birthing a brilliant phenomenon, Finntroll blend pagan black metal with traditional Finnish humppa (polka) to create mug-hoisting choruses for drunken golem-chasers.
With renewed vigor and a fiery new frontman, Finntroll crawl up from their clammy tavern clutching their fifth full-length, "Ur Jordens Djup." After many nights of drunken debauchery at Sonic Pump studios, where they certainly overstayed their welcome, the Finnish sextet is proud to bring you another fine example of their trademark blackened pagan folk metal. Under the guidance of producer extraordinaire Nino Laurenne, who has similarly assisted goth legends Nightwish and Amorphis, Finntroll have crafted their most consistent concoction of cavernous chaos yet. The effort is drenched in atmosphere, with guitarists Skrymer and Routa creating a maelstrom of metal mayhem amidst the pull and sway of pagan polka. Trollhorn (keyboards) channels the jubilant troll within to give "Ur Jordens Djup" its celebratory and unmistakably mythological charm. The Bone 107.7 presents: Pirate Cat Radio presents: BROOKE FRASER (9/14) - Almost everyone in New Zealand knows Brooke Fraser as a 19 year-old singer-songwriter from Wellington whose debut album "What To Do With Daylight" catapulted her into the charts with four number one radio hits and sales exceeding seven times platinum.
Her second album "Albertine" is Brooke Fraser three years on from that - and we're not afraid to say that you can hear the difference.
It's the sound of Brooke having toured the world with her songs, playing shows as far afield as Japan, the USA and UK as well as her newly adopted home of Australia, where she relocated in 2004. It's the sound of her blossoming love affair with Africa (the album is named for an orphan in Rwanda with whom Brooke has a special bond), of passion for justice, authenticity and faith, and of hanging at her down-under base camp absorbing, reading, watching, talking, mulling over these things. TOADIES (9/16) - Why is it such a big deal that the Toadies are back? The band rose to fame in the 90's when their debut album, "Rubberneck," went platinum on the strength of two smash singles “Possum Kingdom” and "Tyler." It then took a long seven years for their follow up album, "Hell Below/Stars Above" to be released. Shortly thereafter, bassist Lisa Umbarger quit the band. The remaining members played a few farewell shows, before going their separate ways. Vocalist Vaden Todd Lewis started a new band, The Burden Brothers, drummer Mark Reznicek began playing with Eleven Hundred Springs and guitarist Clark Vogeler moved to LA to start a career in film.
It wasn’t until 2005 that the band got together again for a one off show on St Patrick's Day in Dallas. In 2006, they reunited once more for a string of sold out shows in Dallas, Austin and Houston. Vogeler says, “The fan response really surprised us all. I had no idea that people would show up in the numbers that they did. Clearly, people still wanna see a Toadies show." Lewis adds “After the first show, we started getting more offers for the Toads. I like to work. A lot. So we did a few more shows during my time off from the Burden Brothers. They turned out to be a gas.” So what's next for the Toadies? “Expect lots of rock. And maybe even new Toadies releases in the future. Whether that involves putting out some unreleased archival stuff, or even recording new material... who knows?” says Reznicek.
Let’s face it; the music industry isn't the same as it was 10-15 years ago. They just don't make 'em like they used to. Remember when the rock/alternative scene was good? It was a long time ago, I know. Bands don't sound like The Toadies, or The Pixies, or Nirvana, or the old Pearl Jam (before becoming political activists) anymore. Now we have to live with, and listen to generic crap rock, nu metal & American Idol rejects. Music needs redemption, dammit. Vogeler says, “I've realized that trends in popular music come and go, but hardcore fans of a band stick around for the long run. The Hell Below era reminds me of what a struggle it can be for a band who just wants to record albums and tour. These days the band gives me a sense of optimism that perhaps we can play music on our terms.”
What better reason for the Toadies to pick up their guitars and re-tune the strings? The band's new album, "No Deliverance," was just released on August 19. The Bay Bridged presents:
Low Red Land (Mark DeVito, Neil Thompson, and Ben Thorne) create a style that is unique, yet gratifying and familiar. They merge layers of rock, folk, country, and hardcore to craft songs that are intensely dynamic and lyrically poignant. They have been traveling our nation's highways for the past two years with great dedication, collecting numerous rave live show reviews and drawing in new fans at every stop.
Formed in early 2005, the band moved from Boston to San Francisco and quickly adopted a heavy touring routine. With more than 300 shows already played, the band has no plans to slow down. They have just completed their second album, "Dog's Hymns," and will be on the road all fall in support of the new work. Jimmy Sweetwater presents: HOT FOR TEACHER: A TRIBUTE TO VAN HALEN (9/20) - ***The East Bay Express has just voted Hot For Teacher the best cover act or tribute band in the San Francisco Bay Area!***
Here's what they have to say:
"There are cover bands and then there are tribute bands. The East Bay's Hot for Teacher, formed in 1999 to pay homage to the classic David Lee Roth era of Van Halen, features not only old-school music but is fronted by an actual teacher, hence the name. The wildly entertaining singer Randy Monroe, a middle-school science teacher by day, pours much energy and enthusiasm into becoming Roth. Along with guitarist Jude Gold, bassist Jesse Scott, and drummer Eddie Studebaker, Monroe and co. take their act on the road quite often, due to demand. Hot for Teacher has played most of the Western US and has upcoming shows from San Francisco to Montana. The next time the urge strikes to hear "Somebody Get Me a Doctor" or "Runnin' With the Devil" live, and if you like VH but prefer to skip the Sammy Hagar years, a trip to see HFT is in order." POSSESSED / OBITUARY (9/25) - HORRORPOPS (9/26) - Danish born, LA based pop-punk trio HorrorPops just unveiled their hotly anticipated 3rd album, "Kiss Kiss Kill Kill," courtesy of Hellcat Records. Inspired by thematic elements from vintage films and classic soundtracks, the noir-influenced release emphasizes the band's unique ability to intermingle a variety of influences ranging from punk, rockabilly, new wave and surf. This album is another gutsy release from one of pop-rock's most unique and daring bands. BLVD & MC SOULEYE (9/27) - A spontaneous collaboration has led to a full-time partnership between four young emerging artists, as Colorado-based MC Souleye joins instrumental San Francisco trio BLVD on the road and in the studio. Consistent West Coast touring has brought this collaboration to the vanguard of the live electronica movement and continues to break down boundaries between dance club culture and the live music community. The synthesis of these two scenes is at the heart of BLVD's primary focus since the band's inception in 2003. BLVD's live interpretations of what are generally considered to be electronic musical forms blend naturally with MC Souleye's conscious and rhythmic approach to rapping. Together they create a dynamic sound with broad appeal.
Kicking off this evening is the Savage Journey - an audio/visual tribute to the early works of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (Directed, mixed and performed by DJ James Christopher & featuring the music of KJ Sawka.)
The SJ is an audio/visual music environment using visual imagery representing the concepts covered in the works of Dr. Thompson. The overall goal is to deliver a vision of Hunter's point of view concerning politics, America and society using his most important writings as conceptual source material. Using modern computer imaging and 3D animation in combination with original stock footage from the 60's and 70's, the mission is to create a hyper surreal interpretation.
Being that the political climate of modern America has reached a boiling point not seen since the days of Nixon and the Vietnam War, it is our goal to show a new perspective via the lens of Hunters own vision. Hunter's accessibility to youth culture makes adapting his works into visual stimulus timeless and unique. The strong archetypes and themes represented in Hunter's work created landmarks that are as recognizable today as they were some 40 years ago. In short, it is our focus to give the audience an experience they can relate with while bringing to light hard truths that have been with our country for generations. We think its important to remember not just how Hunter and the counterculture reacted to the times, but also the travesties our unelected governments represented; ie: the pigs trough, the money machine of war and media monopoly, most importantly, the illusion of fear. BURNING SPEAR (9/29, 9/30) - Once in a great while, an artist emerges that has a profound effect on popular culture. Burning Spear is such an artist. A certifiable musical legend, Spear's career has already spanned over three decades and shows no sign of slowing down. Through his music, Burning Spear has consistently been able to educate, inform, and uplift people the world over with his positive message based on honesty, peace, and love. One of the most brilliant and respected roots artists in Jamaica's history, Burning Spear (AKA Winston Rodney) has released a host of classic dread records over the years. Part Rastafarian preacher, part historian, more than any other roots artist, Burning Spear has illuminated Rastafarianism in song, sharing his beliefs with an avid public. ILL BILL (10/1) - Howard Jones (Killswitch Engage), Max Cavalera (Soulfy, Sepultura), and HR and Darryl Jenifer (Bad Brains) are among the guest musicians who appear on the new album from Brooklyn's own Ill Bill. Due on September 16 via Uncle Howie/Fat Beats Records, "The Hour of Reprisal" features cover art by Larry Carroll, the man behind Slayer's "Reign In Blood", "South of Heaven", "Seasons in the Abyss", and "Christ Illusion" covers, and includes a bonus DVD of Ill Bill's wild set at the historic CBGB club in NYC. The DVD also features a guided tour of every historic filthy inch of CBGB hosted by Ill Bill himself. For "The Hour of Reprisal", Ill Bill brought in the most special guests and friends, including Jones, Cavalera, HR and Darryl Jenifer, Raekwon the Chef (Wu-Tang Clan), B-Real (Cypress Hill), Everlast (House of Pain), Necro, Immortal Technique, Vinnie Paz (Jedi Mind Tricks), Tech N9ne, and Slaine (La Coka Nostra), making the album an all-star display of rap and metal talent. Also, for the first time, a bulk of the production has been propelled by Bill himself. The Bone presents:
Since their humble start in 1992 as an underground band from Tumba, a suburb in southern Stockholm, Amon Amarth have managed to establish themselves as one of Europe’s top death metal acts through hard work, relentless touring, and consistently solid albums. What has set Amon Amarth apart from the rest of the death metal scene since the very beginning is their use of Viking mythology and imagery in lyrics and artwork, as well as a talent for writing epic, memorable melodies, which underline their solemn yet barbaric approach to heavy music.
As if the norse deity had cast a blessing on Amon Amarth, the band has emerged with an album ("With Oden On Our Side") that will define a “before” and “after” in their career for years to come. Recorded at Fascination Street Studios with producer Jens Bogren, the majestic riffs, thunderous drums and roaring vocals have never sounded better and more convincing. A match surely made in Valhalla, Mikkonen comments on the collaboration as follows: “We had never worked with a producer before the way it should be done. Jens Bogren took the band to a new level, both production- and sound-wise. Musically, this album is more worked through and, most important of all, we wrote it together as a unit.” A most fearsome and deadly unit, that is now gearing up to crush audiences the world over once again! Yonas Media presents: THE SWORD (10/10) - The Sword is the soul of the warrior. Therefore, when the warrior is the subject, the sword inevitably comes with him. The Sword is a colossal, high-energy powerhouse. Utilizing a potent combination of intense songwriting chemistry, eye-opening creativity and talent and a distinctly unique vision, The Sword is, without question, one of heavy music's most electrifying new bands. Inspired by such legendary names as Sleep, Slayer and The Melvins, this Austin-based band's live shows quickly became the hottest ticket in town, as their punishing, yet melodious compositions, mythical imagery and conscious effort to slowly immobilize audiences left music fans astonished while word about the band continued to flourish and grow. Less than a year after their formation, The Sword became known as "Austin's most dangerous band." The band was soon sharing the stage with everyone from Mastodon to Jucifer to ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead and stunning thousands of new devotees across the country.
With its newly unleashed sophomore album, "Gods of the Earth," freshly laid to tape, The Sword prepares to build upon the foundation it laid with its critically acclaimed debut "Age of Winters" and continues to lead modern day metal's forward charge with its earth-shaking ability to rock. AMORPHIS (10/12) - Founded in 1990 in Helsinki, Amorphis have become a standard of originality and musical greatness in the European metal scenes. Originally the idea of guitarist Esa Holopainen, Amorphis were innovators in the early 90s Finnish Death Metal scene, and since have steadily developed into a more significant and adventurous hard rock act. The underground metal break-through, "Tales Of The Thousand Lakes," shook metal fans worldwide in 1994, and not only have they shown that they are capable of reaching the masses but have also continued to forge new musical ground with each release since. Amorphis' new album, "Eclipse," is a milestone in the band’s career that also marks the arrival of a new voice and face to the fold. UNEARTH (10/13) - Hailing from Massachusetts, the virtual metal and hardcore capital of North America, Unearth bring a refreshing sense of talent with charismatic riffs, thought provoking lyrics and pummeling breakdowns. Unearth masterfully combine an intoxicating mix of American and European metal with hardcore ethic and punch. This unique approach makes Unearth one of the most abrasive, commanding and emotionally charged groups in heavy music today. STREET DOGS (10/16) - When Street Dogs frontman Mike McColgan sings about his viewpoints on the war in Iraq or about heroes that have made sacrifices for a better life, he really means it. That's because McColgan isn't just another scowling kid on stage, screaming songs about the president. A Gulf War Army veteran having served as part of an artillery crew in Iraq during Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield, McColgan walks the walk when he talks his talk. On the Street Dogs' latest album, "State of Grace," McColgan is placing all of his thoughts, emotions and inclinations - political and otherwise - out on the line for all to hear.
McColgan's history, both musically and personally, make him a powerful and uniquely credible leader for the Street Dogs. Mike helped launch seminal Irish punk rock act the Dropkick Murphys and performed with the act during its earliest days, only to leave the punk rock world to serve his community as a Boston fire fighter. His duty to his country sent him overseas during the first Gulf conflicts as a member of the US Army. McColgan realized, however, that his days in music weren't over. The Street Dogs were formed in 2002, and took their act to the streets, bringing their road-wise sounds to cities across the nation on a full-time level, with rousing receptions everywhere they went. With a unique combination of a ska background, street punk upbringing and Irish punk experience, the Street Dogs had devised a style that was distinctively all its own. BAYSIDE (10/19) - The band's new album "Shudder" will be in stores Sept. 30, 2008. FITO REINOSO & RITMO Y ARMONIA / THE JOHN SANTOS SEXTET (10/22) - TICKETS ON SALE THIS SUNDAY, AUGUST 31. SHERWOOD (10/23) - TICKETS ON SALE THIS SUNDAY, AUGUST 31. KAMELOT (10/25) - Kamelot is one of metal's most unique, influential and prestigious acts to come along in decades. The group's reputation among fans and media alike is marked by enthusiasm as well as esteem, each of their seven studio albums to date surpassing its predecessor in terms of songwriting and production. As one of the most difficult-to-categorize artists on the metal scene, Kamelot are poised to assault the planet with their most insightful and ambitious project to date, "Ghost Opera." Ready to continue their ascension to the pinnacle of metal royalty, founding guitarist Thomas Youngblood, bassist Glenn Barry, new keyboardist Oliver Palotai and drummer Casey Grillo join lead singer Roy Khan to complete this journey to systematically alter the face of metal. Throughout the recent years, their releases have achieved cult status around the world. "Ghost Opera" will once again raise the bar for others to follow. EVERLAST (10/26) - The voice of House of Pain will be releasing his new album, "Love, War and the Ghost of Whitey Ford," on Sept. 23. APOCALYPTICA (10/27) - There aren't many rock bands on this planet that wouldn't like to be regarded as unique. Of course, in these times of nostalgia and endlessly recycled ideas, very few actually deserve that description. Finland's Apocalyptica deserve it more than most. Utterly original in every respect, these classically-trained merchants of genre-shattering metal, sound quite unlike anything or anyone else in musical history.
The band's brand new album, "Worlds Collide," is produced by long-time Rammstein muse Jacob Hellner, and is plainly the pinnacle of the Finnish ingenues steadily accelerating upward ascent; a dazzling collection of stunning mini-epics that touches upon every aspect of the band's history while introducing countless new ideas and unexpected detours to their unmistakable sound. Or simply put: a collection of great rock songs. THE DAMNED (10/28) - ***The Damned is running a contest to choose the local opener for each of their upcoming shows! Bands may submit themselves to open and the Damned will listen to all submissions and select the opening act. Please email damned.support@googlemail.com with your details***
As punk's history enters a new millennium, the impact of the band initially judged "the least likely to" seems to grow ever more each day. The Ramones hold deserved pride of place for kick-starting the whole thing, while the Sex Pistols and to a lesser extent the Clash helped take it to an even more notorious level, role models for many young bands to this day. But arguably just as important and memorable were the Damned, London contemporaries of the Pistols and Clash that made their own mark from the start. Eschewing political posing, ill-fitting outside rhetoric, and simply doing the same thing over and over again, the group — lacking anything like a stable lineup — took punk's simplicity and promise as a starting point and ran with it. The end result, at the group's finest: a series of inspired, ambitious albums and amazing live shows combining full-on rock energy, a stylish sense of performance, and humorous deadpan cool. THE REVIVAL TOUR W/ CHUCK RAGAN, BEN NICHOLS, TIM BARRY AND TOM GABEL (10/30) - The Revival Tour features Chuck Ragan (of Hot Water Music), Ben Nichols (of Lucero), Tim Barry (of Avail) and Tom Gabel (of Against Me!) - in addition to individual sets by each musician, the evening will end with a collaborative set of music performed by all four. This will be Chuck Ragan's last tour in support of "Feast or Famine" before heading back into the studio. Aquarius Records presents: AN EVENING W/ UMPHREY'S MCGEE (11/1) - The ascension continues for Chicago’s Umphrey’s McGee, not only in terms of their commercial success but in creative accomplishment and instrumental achievement as well. Their performance on "Live at the Murat" (SCI Fidelity), their first official live release, is as impressive as anything they’ve recorded to date, with the power and finesse, the yin and the yang, that have come to characterize their by-now classic material.
It is innovative without being indulgent, exhilarating without losing control, and there are plenty of improv passages that keep the band and their fans off-balance. As David Fricke notes in his four-star review of Live at the Murat in Rolling Stone, Umphrey’s McGee “always have destination on their minds, even when they fly free.”
UM has — since forming in the late ’90s in the South Bend, Indiana area — cultivated an impressive presence both live and in the studio, quite an accomplishment when considering their humble roots.
The jam crowd hoisted the band up on their proverbial shoulders as heroes. Fans reveled in Umphrey’s flair for inventive improvisation, incredible covers, and unpredictable moments. The band had also developed an uncanny visual language onstage that includes dozens of unspoken cues. These cues manage to keep things tight and prevent their improv interludes from spiraling into hippie jam orbit. The band retains space, breath, and patience in performances, yet maintain masterly control in the process.
These days, Umphrey’s spends half the year on the road habitually flooring audiences. Their anything-goes musicianship, humor, and good nature all make remarkable entertainment.
TORCHE (11/3) - TICKETS ARE ON SALE THIS SUNDAY, AUGUST 31. JEDI MIND TRICKS (11/6) - For the past six months, the group has been hard at work on their sixth studio album, "A History Of Violence," which will be released on October 14th. COWBOY MOUTH (11/8) - For more than 15 years, the members of Cowboy Mouth have embraced, embodied, preached and shouted at the top of their lungs the joys of their hometown, New Orleans, sharing a slice of Mardi Gras heaven with fans around the world on 10+ recordings and at their legendary live shows, which to date have been witnessed by more than 8 million and captured best by Cake magazine when it noted: "...on a bad night they'll tear the roof off the joint and on a good night they'll save your soul."
Crowd participation is a must at a Cowboy Mouth rock n' roll revival. The band onstage, led by Fred LeBlanc's larger than life presence, is extraordinarily intense, with vocal and style changes between members that keep audiences glued, usually leaving them as drenched and spent as the band. Cowboy Mouth fans range from ages 5 to age 85 but they have one thing in common. As Fred confides to the audience, Cowboy Mouth is about pretending that your five years old, naked as a jaybird and about to turn the hose on your parents and there's not a damn thing they can do about it." GLEN PHILLIPS/JONATHA BROOKE (11/9) - Glen Phillips has been making music for over two decades now, starting as the 14-year-old frontman of Toad the Wet Sprocket. During this time, he’s accumulated a sizable body of work comprising numerous albums with Toad and also several as a solo artist.
When Woody Guthrie's daughter Nora invited Jonatha Brooke into the famous Woody Guthrie Archives, the intention was for Brooke to set Guthrie's lyrics to one or two songs, becoming the first woman ever to do so. The end result is a full-length album of previously unheard lyrics by Guthrie set to original music written and performed by Brooke. Bad Dog Records will release the collection, titled "The Works," on Aug. 26. "The Works" will be the follow-up to 2007's "Careful What You Wish For," Brooke's 7th solo release following the 1994 dissolution of her folk-pop duo The Story with whom she released 2 albums in the early '90s.
ROGER CLYNE AND THE PEACEMAKERS (11/11) - TICKETS ON SALE THIS SUNDAY, AUGUST 31. BRING ME THE HORIZON (11/23) - TICKETS ARE ON SALE THIS SUNDAY, AUGUST 23. | |||
